One of my earliest experiences in a band was with my brother Tim on drums covering Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff & The Police. We called ourselves The Zealots & to this day I have continued my attempts to create a song that could do justice to the seductive brilliance & social relevence of this art form.

The songs have all come to life on the bandstand. ‘Slow Burn’ came into existence during our Jazz Cellar residency in May 2007. This version recorded by CBC and videotaped by Robert Kenney was the second time we had performed the song; it has since become something of a signature tune for the band!

‘Lonely Road’ is all about the pedal steel! Tim & I wrote this one together on a lark teaching kids about song-writing. At the end of the day we knew we had stumbled upon something deeper than the original intention. It has become one of our most requested songs, a tribute to the elegance of great country music.

‘Into The Flames’ is a leap of faith song; finding the courage to pursue what moves you and sticking to your guns. Reworked from among the original collection of songs that set this band in motion, Dan & Tim now own it with their firebrand playfulness!
